Meet Sims Spinners.

Due to my winter hibernation and refusal to fish on ice this year (or so it seems), I haven’t had anything worthwhile to write about. However, I finally have something informational and promotional that is worth sharing with you.

Here is a tale about a basement business with big goals that is evolving into something special.

In September, 2010, my friends, Dan Sims, and David Mannion, began building their own hand-made inline spinners for personal use. The motive behind this was that inline spinners are their preferred and favorite way to catch fish, and to save money because as we all know it the prices for fishing lures and equipment keeps going up in this downtrodden economy of ours.

When the first Sims Spinners were built, the first lure prototypes I received from Dan and Dave were made through trial and error, and did not look good. The blades wouldn’t turn properly, the dressings on each treble were poorly tied and kept falling off after a few casts. I’ll be honest; It wasn’t bad or terrible, but more along the lines of being a trying struggle.

I was skeptical, and recall telling Dan that I could not invest the time to build him a website for his business unless the construction and quality of lures had improved to the point that all defects were eliminated. A guarantee of quality towards all fishermen and customers was needed.

Within a few short weeks after the test-run spinner builds (early October), the construction and components of the lures were significantly improved upon to the point that everything that made up each lure was built with extreme detail and quality. No longer was the treble dressing ripping and falling off. Neither was the blade running improperly, or shaft length disproportional. Everything about the lures and the components that made them finally looked right and was built with top-of-the-line materials.

I was finally sold. A team to assist with this project in various capacities from photography for website, to lure treble tying was officially assembled, and in mid-October I built them a website that was immediately open for business.

Finally, my friends Dan and Dave, have a well-established business that creates quality, durable, affordable, custom, and innovative hand-made inline spinners. Up to this point and everywhere the lures have been fished the all the customers to whom the lures have been sold, Sims Spinners have fared to be proven winners and multi-species weapons of choice for all freshwater gamefish species.

After countless hours of researching, consulting and collaborating with friends and their fellow fishermen, and ultimately developing one of the best inline spinners on the market that rival some of the world’s largest lure companies, they have discovered one of the best inline spinner designs that anyone could build for fishermen.

As of now, the production of Sims Spinners looks something like this:

Hundreds of tails and treble dressings of all kinds; Hot off the hand-tied press, ready to be assembled on to lures.

Basic lure packaging, ready to be shipped off to customers along the likes of Don Dziedzina of Illinois Outdoors.

These are photos of just some of the more popular and their best-selling lure color patterns.

ALL Sims Spinners are made from the highest quality materials that can be used. Superior in comparison to any other inline spinner I have personally used. Custom colors, lure dressings, blade styles, and sizes are available upon request.

  • 0.32mm Stainless wire
  • Machined brass bodies
  • Powder coated blades and bodies
  • Colorado and French Blades
  • Mustad 2X strong hooks
  • Hand-made and hand-tied dressings

Not only are Sims Spinners made with blades of #3, 4, and 5 sizes in single and double bladed varieties, but they also produce a specialized spinner for Trout and Salmon. And by summer 2011, along with my aid, we hope to develop and begin the production of lures built for Musky fishing.

To date, majority of the success stories with Sims Spinners have been coming from the upper Midwest in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana. In particular, the Chicagoland region has been getting pounded and man-handled by anglers using these inlines. The success rates with them thus far has been phenomenal.

My time with using Sims Spinners has limited thus far in open water because I only got hold of the most recent versions of the lure at the end of October. I have not gotten the chance to fish them anywhere up north yet, and neither from boat. However, if river fishing the flowing water for Bass and Pike is something you enjoy doing like me, you will love fishing with these. In addition, in case you forgot how to use inline spinners or have success with them, you may rekindle your personal relationship with inlines just as I did.

My favorite characteristics of Sims Spinners is the fact that they can be built according to anyone’s color and size specifications, can be retrieved in several varying speeds, and cast far like bullets (even in wind) in comparison to other inlines such as Mepps and Roostertails.

I have some very big plans in mind during the upcoming 2011 season with Sims Spinners. Putting these lures into use at all of my venues up north when a power fishing game is needed will result in bad fortunes for the fish.

Check out Sims Spinners, and visit their website to place your orders. They accept PayPal orders via. electronically, as well as money orders through telephone and mail. When ordering, keep in mind that several new colors and color/blade combinations are being developed and created on a monthly basis, and product photos are continuously updated. Not only can they be ordered directly through the Sims Spinners website, but they are on display at several regional tackle retail outlets, and Sims Spinners will be present at a few upcoming winter fishing shows as well.

Sims Spinners is co-owned by Dan Sims and David Mannion, and can be accessed online by visiting
